Classic car carefully loaded for transport in Cornwall

Classic and Prestige Car Transport

Cars where the transport itself is the risk. Low clearance, original paint, and an owner who would rather it was not driven at all.

For classic owners, collectors, restorers and anyone moving a car to a show, an auction, a specialist or a new home.

With a classic or a prestige car the drive is often the thing you are trying to avoid. Miles on an original engine, salt on a restored underside, stone chips on a fresh respray, and the risk of a breakdown a long way from a specialist are all reasons owners put the car on a truck instead of behind a steering wheel.

Ground clearance is the practical problem. Splitters, low front valances, long overhangs and stiff suspension all catch on a standard loading angle, and a scraped underside is not something anyone wants to explain at the other end. We use a shallower approach and ramps where needed, and we would rather spend ten extra minutes at the loading stage than repair a spoiler.

Strapping is the second thing owners ask about. Wheel straps over the tyres rather than chains on the suspension or the axles, so the car sits on its own springs and nothing is put under load that was not designed for it. On chrome bumpered and unrestored cars we take extra care about where anything touches.

We photograph the car in detail before loading. On a valuable vehicle that record is worth as much to you as it is to us, and it makes any later conversation about a mark straightforward.

What decides your quote

Ground clearance

Front lip height and overhang decide the loading angle and whether extra ramps are needed.

Value and cover level

Higher value cars are worth confirming the in transit cover for before booking.

Whether it runs

Many classics move as non runners mid restoration, which needs winching rather than driving on.

Destination type

Shows, auctions and specialist workshops all have their own access windows and marshalling.

Season and dates

Show weekends and auction dates book up. Early booking gets the slot you actually want.

How the booking runs

  1. 1

    Tell us about the car

Model, clearance, whether it runs, and anything fragile we should keep clear of.

  2. 2

    Loading plan agreed

We decide on approach angle, ramps and strap points before the day, not on the driveway.

  3. 3

    Detailed condition record

Photographs of panels, wheels, glass and interior before the car goes anywhere near the ramps.

  4. 4

    Delivered and inspected together

We unload and walk round the car with you or your nominated contact before we leave.

  • Low angle loading for low clearance cars

Questions people ask before booking

My car is very low at the front. Will it ground on your ramps?

Tell us the clearance and we will plan the approach around it, using a shallower angle and additional ramps where needed. We would rather know the figure than guess at the kerbside.

How is the car secured?

Over the tyres with wheel straps, so the car sits on its own suspension. We avoid chaining to the axles or suspension components on classic and prestige vehicles.

Can you take a car to a show or an auction?

Yes. Those venues run to strict arrival windows, so book early and give us the entry details, gate and slot time when you confirm.

Is the car covered while it is with you?

It is insured in transit. On higher value vehicles, ask us to confirm the level of cover when you book so you are satisfied before the car is loaded.

Will you move a car that is part way through a restoration?

Yes, and it is common. If it has no brakes, no interior or no engine, say so, because it becomes a winch and secure job rather than a drive on.

Broken down right now instead?

This page is for planned movements. If your vehicle has stopped and you need someone today, use the emergency side of the site.
