Vehicle Recovery in Cornwall, Up to 7.5 Tonnes

Not every recovery is a car on a hard shoulder. This is the page for the heavier, awkward and stuck jobs, where weight and access decide everything.

Weight changes the job completely. A van loaded with tools, a light truck, a horsebox or a camper cannot be treated like a hatchback, and putting the wrong equipment under a heavy vehicle is how axles and sills get damaged. We work up to 7.5 tonnes and we ask about the load as well as the vehicle, because a plated weight and a real weight are often different numbers.

Access is the other half of it. Cornwall has farm tracks, beach car parks with soft ground, working yards, sunken lanes with granite hedges either side, and slipways that turn treacherous with the tide. Vehicles that have slid off a verge, sunk into a field entrance or grounded on a ramp need winching rather than lifting, and that needs planning before anyone starts pulling.

When you call, tell us three things: what the vehicle is, roughly what it weighs with whatever is in it, and what is around it. Overhead branches, gateposts, a gradient, mud, sand or a soft verge all change which truck comes out. Getting that right on the phone saves a wasted journey and a second call out charge.

Insurance matters more on this kind of work than on any other. Every recovery we carry out is fully insured, and we will talk you through how the vehicle is being lifted or winched before we touch it.

Frequently Asked Questions

My van is loaded with tools and stock. Does that change anything?

It changes the weight, which changes the truck we send. Give us a rough idea of what is in the back on the call and we will bring the right vehicle rather than turning up under specified.

The vehicle has slid off the road into a field. Can you get it out?

Usually yes, with a winch rather than a straight lift. Tell us the gradient, the ground condition and whether there is a gateway we can work from, and whether the vehicle is on its wheels.

What is the heaviest vehicle you can recover?

We work up to 7.5 tonnes. Above that we will say so honestly on the call rather than send a truck that cannot do the job.

Can you recover a vehicle after an accident?

Yes, once the scene is safe and the emergency services are happy for the vehicle to be moved. We can take it to a garage, a body shop or a storage address.

Do you need the keys?

It helps a great deal, particularly for steering lock and electric parking brakes, but we can still recover a vehicle without them. Tell us in advance so we plan the load properly.
